Fells Point Fun Festival

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Well, how convenient! This weekend, October 2nd and 3rd, is the 44th Annual Fells Point Fun Festival! This family-friendly outdoor street festival, featuring 100+ arts and crafts vendors, 250+ retailers, 5 music stages, 40+ food vendors, and, of course, your favorite surf shop, is the perfect place to spend a day or two outdoors eating, drinking, and being merry! We hear the weather is going to be awesome, and we couldn’t be more pumped. Our whole crew will be set up outside of the shop, so make sure you stop by, say hi, and hang out for a while! We’ll have our usual wares outside (not to mention all our awesome new fall merchandise inside), plus a few surprises you’ll just have to come downtown to check out. Although if you’re our fan on Facebook, you may get a sneak peak later this week…

Get Fired Up

Ever heard of Pyrography?  Walker Babington, a former local artist now based in San Francisco, has been experimenting with this technique of creating pictures on wood through a burning process for years. Using found objects like shutters and wood panels as the base for his larger-than-life portraits, he creates haunting portraits through a variety of burning methods, including a blow torch and magnifying glass. He also experiments with other non-traditional techniques and media including grip tape, candle wax, and scratched wood. Most recently he installed a 480 square ft. mural in Bangalore, India at a place called Jaaga. Seriously, How cool is this stuff?

Kelly Slater Wins!

Kelly Slater, nine-time ASP World Champion, won the 2010 Hurley Pro at Trestles, the 6th stop on the 2010 ASP World Tour, on Saturday. This win pushes Slater, 38, into the ratings’ lead for what could be a record 10th ASP World Title.  Lucky for him, he caught two big breaks; one, thanks to a new double-elimination rule, he got a second chance after a Round 4 stumble against Owen Wright; and two, his Round 5 opponent Chris Davidson was a no-show due to illness, giving Slater a free pass to the Quarterfinals. In the Quarterfinals, he took out Wright, went on to beat Mick Fanning in the Semis, and ultimately took the win against Bede Dubridge in the Finals. Now the pressure’s on; with four contests to go, can he win an unprecedented 10th ASP World Title?

Next up: Quiksilver Pro France starting this Saturday, September 25th.

Tonight is the night! Baltimore plays New York Jets in the first game of 2010-2011 Season! What’s better than a Monday night game to kick off the season? One of the greatest things about Baltimore is the community pride we share when it comes to our Ravens. Just try to escape the sea of purple in the city on a game day… you can’t!  So, GOOD LUCK to our Ravens, and we expect to see you all in your purple today!

Baltimore Grand Prix Sept 2-4 2011

This time next year will be the Baltimore Grand Prix! If you aren’t aware of what this event is, it is an event that will last all of Labor Day weekend and is a part of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series schedule. How great is it that Baltimore has attracted not only professional soccer games but now professional racing! This event is not only great for the city of Baltimore, but for the local economy and businesses!
